\"Group<\/a>
\nA potluck lunch and a ribbon cutting marked the official opening of the new College of Educational Studies’ PhD Study Space for doctoral students. The new space – as yet unnamed – is available to doc students on a 24-hour basis.
\n
\n“The life of study for Ph.D. students is a 24\/7 venture,” said Dean Don Cardinal. “This group needed a space, free of daily distractions, a place to fully invest themselves to deep reading, thinking and writing. Thanks to Chancellor Struppa’s understanding of this need, such a space has become a reality.”
\n
\nDoc student John Naghshineh has already used the space several time: “I’ve gone there to work on papers and to read.” John adds, “Apart from needing a place for studying when the library is filled to the brim, I think one of the best benefits is having a mini commons area for doc students.  We need a common area to gather at so we can share ideas, dialogue, network, and learn from each other.  That half of scholarship is precious and hard to come by when we don’t have a place to call our own.”

\nA crowd of about 25 students, families, friends and faculty celebrated the opening of the space, located at 342 1Ž2 N. Glassell. Professor Dawn Hunter, Director of the
\nPhD Program<\/a>
\n, joined Dean Cardinal for the official ribbon cutting. A contest is underway to name the space; stay tuned for that announcement soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
