As an educator, parent, aspiring teacher, or community member, are you concerned about standardized testing in American schools? The documentary film, Defies Measurement<\/a><\/em>, asks, \u201cWhat if the most important lessons learned in school are the ones that cannot be measured?\u201d Filmmaker Shannon Puckett explores this question in a film featuring several experts on education, including Diane Ravitch<\/a>, David Berliner<\/a>, Linda Darling-Hammond<\/a>, and David Kirp<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Writing for the website, Cloaking Inequity<\/a>, Julian Vasquez Heilig said, \u201cDefies Measurement<\/em> strengthens the discussion about public education by exploring why it is so important to address the social and emotional needs of every student, and what happens when the wrong people make decisions for schools.\u201d (Dr. Vasquez Heilig<\/a> also appears in the film.)<\/p>\n

Peter Greene<\/a>, a self-described, \u201cGrumpy old teacher trying to keep up the good classroom fight in the new age of reformy stuff,\u201d gave the film a very strong review: \u201cI cannot recommend enough that you watch Defies Measurement.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Chapman University\u2019s Chi Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society<\/a> in Education is hosting a screening of this new documentary on\u00a0Wednesday, November 11, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.\u00a0in Irvine Lecture Hall.
