<\/p>\nOn the rainy Friday morning of February 17, the College of Educational Studies co-sponsored a Peace Pole Installation Ceremony in front of Argyros Forum where more than 50 students, staff and faculty gathered to dedicate the new pole, the first on the Chapman campus.

\nThis peace pole in inscribed with eight languages that state, “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” These words represent similar greetings from the seven most common languages spoken by our students, while the indigenous Gabrielino-Tongva tribe provided the eighth language. These messages were chosen to remind the university community to envision and work for world peace.

The dedication event was also co-sponsored by Civic Engagement Initiatives and the Department of Peace Studies. Closing remarks were provided by CES Assistant Professor, Dr. Whitney McIntyre-Miller,<\/p>\n
\nWhat is a peace pole, you ask?
\n
\nChapman University has now joined an international community of universities, schools, parks, organizations and groups that proudly display peace poles. This community, which boasts tens of thousands of peace poles, in over 180 countries, believes in the power of peace and the important reminder of peaceful endeavors and actions. Chapman’s peace pole now has a prominent place between the scholarly and social hubs of our campus- a space where learning and action come together.
