The students involved are part of Attallah College\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/education\/2018\/08\/31\/chapman-launches-partnership-with-shanghai-normal-university\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">first Chapman-SNU partnership<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a three-year pilot program. As part of the program, the SNU students are spending their first year studying at Chapman alongside US-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/graduate\/phd-education\/index.aspx\">Ph.D. in Education<\/a> students in Orange County. Next year, they will return to China to complete their remaining Ph.D. courses under a hybrid model for their second year and will complete their research and doctoral dissertations in China during their final year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prospective CIES contributors are invited each year to propose research that fits the conference theme and builds on the evolution of educational practice within the field of comparative and international education. This year\u2019s conference theme was the intergovernmental shift in perspective on the purpose of education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All 13 of Attallah&#8217;s SNU cohort attended and two students, Jingwen Xing and Feijun Yu, presented. Feijun Tu discussed her research, \u201cThe Fear and Courage of Incomplete Teachers\u201d at a roundtable session, and Jinwen Xing presented \u201cPilot Study on Financial Independence from the Perspective of American College Students\u201d at a poster session. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4920\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4920\" style=\"width: 354px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4920\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2019\/05\/wanlu-li-crop-more.jpg\" alt=\"Wanlu Li at University of California, Berkeley\u2019s Graduate School of Education Research Day\" width=\"354\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2019\/05\/wanlu-li-crop-more.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2019\/05\/wanlu-li-crop-more-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 354px) 100vw, 354px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4920\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wanlu Li at UC Berkeley\u2019s Graduate School of Education Research Day<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attallah Assistant Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/ryan-allen\">Ryan M. Allen, Ph.D.<\/a>, accompanied the Attallah Ph.D. students to the conference, where he presented his research on predatory journals at a roundtable session. Dr. Allen has been involved with CIES since 2014 and serves on its <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ojed.org\/index.php\/jis\/cies-sig\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">committee in the Study Abroad and International Student SIG<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as awards co-chair. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nine of the Ph.D. students also participated in the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocf.berkeley.edu\/~rdoc\/submissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University of California, Berkeley\u2019s Graduate School of Education Research Day<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which coincided with CIES this year in the Bay Area. This mini conference\u2019s theme was \u201cPromoting Interdisciplinary Approaches to bridging Educational Practice and Research.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese conferences are great opportunities for our SNU Ph.D. students to meet and network with other California-based graduate students,\u201d said Dr. Allen. \u201cThis exposure also helps them build
