Teaching, school counseling, speech pathology, education research, and nonprofit leadership\u2014these are some of the many careers that top students in the Attallah College of Educational Studies<\/a> intend on pursuing.<\/p>\n

This fall, Chapman University\u2019s Chi Beta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi <\/a>was honored to welcome and celebrate its new initiates as well as its new chapter advisor, Dr. Amy Ardell<\/a> (Clinical Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of the MACI Program<\/a>), at the 2019 Initiation Ceremony. This year\u2019s new members are a diverse group of undergraduates, graduates, and Ph.D. candidates committed to education and service. Dr. Quaylan Allen<\/a>, Associate Professor of the Integrated Educational Studies program<\/a> and Director of Chapman\u2019s Promising Futures Program for First-Generation Students<\/a>, served as the keynote speaker for the event. He discussed his own journey as an educator and reflected on the impact that schools and educators can have on shaping students and their communities.<\/p>\n

\"Chapman\u2019sKappa Delta Pi (KDP)<\/a> is an international honor society in education with over 600 chapters and more than 40,000 members worldwide. Its mission is to foster excellence in the field of education and to promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching, leadership, scholarship, and service. Membership is selective, as it is limited to students in the top 20% of their respective academic programs who plan on entering the field of education. Membership benefits include opportunities for leadership, professional development, and access to teacher resources. Chapman\u2019s Chi Beta Chapter follows KDP\u2019s mission by honoring a community of diverse educators, enhancing Chapman\u2019s education programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels, and engaging in community service to promote educational equity and justice.<\/p>\n

In previous years, the Chi Beta Chapter has received recognition for its involvement in the annual KDP philanthropy events.\u00a0 For the Literacy Alive! <\/em>Campaign Project in 2016, Chapman\u2019s chapter received an International Silver Award<\/a> as well as a Bronze Award in 2019 for its involvement in the Celebration of Teaching <\/em>event.<\/p>\n
