This population includes millions of young adults with a wide range of disabilities who have and will age out of traditional K-12 educational settings.<\/p>\n<p><em>Transition services<\/em> seek to promote and support a successful transition to employment, independent living, and quality life for individuals with disabilities. In particular, transition age youth need access to vocational training employment and postsecondary education that can lead to long-term careers. In addition to workforce development, many youth and adults benefit from coordinated support that includes health, wellness, and daily living skills.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a larger Transition Initiative, the new Transition CA webpage offers transition planning and employment-related resources for individuals with disabilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those with Intellectual and Developmental Disorders (IDD).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe importance of transition planning, starting from birth, cannot be overstated. It is essential that families, service providers, and educators hold the highest of expectations for each individual\u2019s achievement,\u201d said Linda O\u2019Neal. \u201cIdentifying, supporting, and promoting each individual\u2019s innate abilities and talents is essential to short- and-long term success in education, independent living, and employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Resource Pages<\/h3>\n<p>After nearly two years in development, TPI\u2019s Transition CA website offers resources, tools, services, and career development educational options for youth and adults with a wide range of disabilities as well as those who assist them. Organized by topic area and type of stakeholder, Transition CA offers multiple access pathways.<\/p>\n<p><em>Stakeholder Sections<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/transition-initiative\/stakeholder-resources\/individuals-with-disabilities.aspx\">Individuals with Disabilities:<\/a>\u00a0Materials related to various disability classifications, self-determination, and competitive integrated employment<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/transition-initiative\/stakeholder-resources\/families.aspx\">Families:<\/a>\u00a0Information specific to parents &amp; family members, including a variety of resources to assist with the transition planning and employment process<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/transition-initiative\/stakeholder-resources\/service-providers.aspx\">Service Providers:<\/a>\u00a0Materials relative to disability-related service provision<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/transition-initiative\/stakeholder-resources\/educators.aspx\">Educators:<\/a> Resource materials and best practice documents from various educational agencies throughout California and the United States<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/transition-initiative\/stakeholder-resources\/business-partners.aspx\">Business Partners:<\/a>\u00a0Employment-related reference materials and disability resources specific to workplace diversity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Subject Areas<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Postsecondary education and training<\/li>\n<li>Workforce development training<\/li>\n<li>Employment<\/li>\n<li>Benefits planning and financial management<\/li>\n<li>Community resources<\/li>\n<li>Disability related legislation<\/li>\n<li>Transition and employment related websites<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration\/steering committees<\/li>\n<li>Health and fitness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The site also includes a Transition Training Calendar that lists of related events and trainings.<\/p>\n<p>This website will be updated monthly basis and as new information is acquired.<\/p>\n<h3>DisAbility Summit Focus on Inclusion and Transition<\/h3>\n<p>In support of its mission, the TPI hosted its annual DisAbility Summit to showcase recent disability studies research and hear from key community partners. TPI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/education\/centers-and-partnerships\/thompson-policy-institute\/disability-summit\/2020-disability-summit.aspx\">2020 DisAbility Summit<\/a> was held in an entirely virtual format on October 9, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s summit is \u201cInclusion and Transition: Each Enhancing the Other,\u201d focusing on the state of inclusive education and initiatives that support youth as they transition into adulthood.
