Her academic path in sociology, however, revealed a lack of representation in higher education; she recalls having only two Latina instructors throughout her studies. That absence inspired her to pursue research\u00a0\u2018with\u2019\u00a0people, rather than\u00a0\u2018on\u2019\u00a0them, centering humanity and dignity while contributing to meaningful social change.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now in her fifth year of\u00a0Attallah College\u2019s\u00a0Ph.D. in\u00a0Education program, with an emphasis in\u00a0Cultural and\u00a0Curricular\u00a0Studies, Flores will graduate in spring 2026. She said the doctoral program has allowed her to grow as both a scholar and an advocate. \u201cPursuing a Ph.D. has allowed me to learn to center the humanity and dignity of people in my work while contributing to social change in meaningful ways,\u201d she said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Centering Immigrant Latina Voices<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Flores\u2019s dissertation investigates how immigrant Latina mothers, through their individual and communal practices, support their families and communities while navigating systemic adversity. Drawing from critical pedagogy and a critical narrative approach, her research highlights how Latina motherhood fosters resilience, unity, and hope.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As a first-generation Latina scholar,\u00a0Flores said the work is deeply personal. \u201cThis study is significant to me, as I was raised by my strong and beautiful Oaxacan mother and a community of Latina women whose dedication to faith, family, and service shaped my own commitment to contributing to our community,\u201d she said. \u201cParticularly in the spirit of\u00a0acompa\u00f1amiento\u00a0[accompaniment] and the belief that \u2018to whom much has been given, much will be required.\u2019\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Guided by Mentorship<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Flores\u2019s dissertation chair and faculty advisor is\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/lilia-monzo.aspx\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr. Lilia D.
