Hannah\u00a0<\/span>Mangold<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>MAT \u201924, <\/span>has been named the 2026 Outstanding Rookie of the Year Teacher by the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>California Council for the Social Studies (CCSS).<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0award recognizes K-12 educators in their first five years of teaching who\u00a0<\/span>demonstrate<\/span>\u00a0exceptional promise and impact in social studies education.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hannah<\/span> currently teaches 6th-grade Ancient History and\u00a0<\/span>beginning<\/span>\u00a0dance for grades 6-7 at Gladstone Middle School<\/span>\u00a0in the Azusa Unified School District<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hannah\u00a0<\/span>credits her students for shaping her approach to social studies. By taking the time to understand their interests, she finds ways to connect ancient content to modern life<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>relating Mesopotamia to video games, Rome to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Star Wars<\/span><\/span><\/em>, or opening the floor for students to discuss current events on their own terms.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hannah<\/span>\u00a0points to her preparation at\u00a0<\/span>Chapman\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Attallah College<\/span>\u00a0of Educational Studies<\/span> as central to her early success.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe were asked to look at our strengths and weaknesses in so many different ways and forced to find solutions,\u201d she said. \u201cThis pushed me to find a way to always be effective and positive about teaching, which later translated to success when I got my own classroom.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For current Attallah College students preparing to enter the classroom,\u00a0<\/span>Hannah gives the advice to push yourself to grow as an educator and a student.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is so important that you continue to allow yourself to grow as a learner even when\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019re<\/span>\u00a0in the position of authority as\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span> teacher.
