She knew her interests centered on community and adult education, and once she learned about Attallah College&#8217;s new Community Educational Studies\u00a0(CES)\u00a0major, Eiselman became one of the inaugural students who will graduate this spring.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This fall, Eiselman will begin the Master of Studies in Law program at USC Gould School of Law. She plans to continue her education beyond that degree through\u00a0additional\u00a0master&#8217;s\u00a0programs, doctoral work or potentially a J.D. with a long-term goal of working as an educator and researcher within the criminal justice system.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Eiselman shares her journey through Chapman&#8217;s Community Educational Studies major and how it is preparing her for the next chapter ahead.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW179381285 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW179381285 BCX0\" data-ccp-charstyle=\"Emphasis\">Finding the Right Fit<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Eiselman initially\u00a0connected with faculty at Attallah College to learn what major could accommodate her interest\u00a0in community and adult education.\u00a0Initially,\u00a0she declared the\u00a0Integrated\u00a0Educational\u00a0Studies\u00a0major and\u00a0began tailoring her academic path toward her postgraduate goals.\u00a0When the Community Educational Studies\u00a0(CES)\u00a0major began to take shape, she recognized it\u00a0immediately.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;When I learned about the development of the CES major, I immediately recognized that it aligned more closely with the work I hoped to pursue,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It felt meaningful to earn a degree that explicitly reflects my dedication to community-based work.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW251217646 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW251217646 BCX0\">A Course That Changed Everything<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ask Eiselman which experience most shaped her thinking, and she returns to her freshman year.\u00a0&#8220;CES 102: Social Construction of Difference,&#8221; she said,\u00a0remains\u00a0one of the most influential courses she has taken. The class solidified her commitment to engaging with c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ommunities in ways that are curious,\u00a0reflective\u00a0and intentional, particularly around understanding how difference shapes lived experiences.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That foundation sent her in several directions at once, guiding her toward a minor in Law and the Liberal Arts, deepening her work at the Public Law\u00a0Center\u00a0and pushing her to explore issues related to the criminalization of difference and disability.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;It empowered me as both an advocate and an emerging educator,&#8221; Eiselman said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">She describes her peers as creative, driven and committed to meaningful academic and career goals, a collaborative spirit that has defined her time at the university.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Most recently, Eiselman is being recognized with the 18th Annual Kevin and Tam Ross Undergraduate Research Award from the Leatherby Libraries for work completed in Professor Quaylan Allen&#8217;s &#8220;CES 203: Introduction to Research Methods in Education.\u201d Her research project is titled, \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Gaps in the Academy: Evaluating Pre-Service Criminal Justice Training for Interactions with Vulnerable Populations.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Attallah College is thrilled to celebrate Rowan Eiselman this spring at Chapman&#8217;s Commencement and Degree Ceremony.
