{"id":965,"date":"2012-03-21T08:26:16","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T15:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/education\/2012\/03\/21\/dr-brian-alters-new-president-of-ncse\/"},"modified":"2012-03-21T08:26:16","modified_gmt":"2012-03-21T15:26:16","slug":"dr-brian-alters-new-president-of-ncse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/education\/2012\/03\/21\/dr-brian-alters-new-president-of-ncse\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Brian Alters New President of NCSE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past weekend, Brian Alters became President of the Board of Directors of the<a title=\"NCSE Site\" href=\"http:\/\/ncse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0National Center for Science Education (NCSE)<\/a>.\u00a0 The President for the past 18 years was Kevin Padian, Professor of paleontology at U.C. Berkeley. NCSE is frequently in the middle of heated national controversy. With the addition of the teaching of climate change to their evolution focus, NCSE is assured of greater exposure to the increasing assault and denial of the science behind climate change.\u00a0 It is very likely that in the coming years our own Brian Alters will be a major reason why our teachers will be free to teach climate change according to the scientific evidence rather than being denied the right to do so. This is not exaggeration, many states are currently rewriting the science books to deny the hard science behind climate change.\u00a0 For more on the controversy see the\u00a0<a title=\"NCSE\" href=\"http:\/\/ncse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">NCSE website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The National Center for Science Education (NCSE) is a not-for-profit, membership organization providing information and resources for schools, parents and concerned citizens working to keep evolution and climate science in public school science education. The NCSE educates the press and public about the scientific and educational aspects of controversies surrounding the teaching of evolution and climate change, and supplies needed information and advice to defend good science education at local, state, and national levels.
