yielding rewards, as they proved during the recent Long Beach Spring Regatta. The Chapman women rowed to second place in the varsity 8 and varsity 4 competitions, while the men won the novice 4 race, took second in the varsity 4’s and finished third in the varsity 8’s.

Because they often compete at 8 a.m. (when the water is calmest) in Newport Harbor or outside Orange County, they seldom have more than a few people to cheer them on. So here’s to their success as the women prepare for the Berg Cup on Saturday (April 10) and the men get ready to host Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine on April 17 and 18. Both teams will be competing near Chapman’s Robert and Marie Gray Collegiate Rowing Center in Newport Beach. On the horizon for both squads: the WIRA Chapmpionships May 1-2 in Sacramento. Kudos and best of luck to the student competitors as well as to coaches Paul Wilkins, Steve Guentz and Scott Fournet.
