Wiesel event full, wait list long

If you’re one of the 50 people on the waiting list for tickets to see Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Elie Wiesel April 26, don’t lose hope.

Some ticketholders have released their tickets and if you’re one of the lucky ones high on the list, you will be contacted by telephone, says Jessica MyLymuk, Holocaust education coordinator for the Sala and Aron Samueli Holocaust Memorial Library and one of the organizers of the event.

Tickets went fast.

“I wasn’t surprised,” says MyLymuk, who remembers Wiesel’s 2005 appearance as a wonderful experience. “For how famous he is, he was so humble. He was so gracious. He truly seemed to appreciate the students and the time that was put into his event.”

The event includes a screening of the documentary Boys of Buchenwald followed by reflections with Wiesel, a Buchenwald survivor.

Even if you don’t land a ticket to the film night with Wiesel, a celebration of his work is free and open to the public when Chapman’s MFA students read excerpts from Night, one of his most famous works, and Holocaust-era survivor poems, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the Malloy Performance Portico, Leatherby Libraries. Refreshments will be served.

Also, a few seats are available for the April 25 gala honoring Wiesel. For information, email events@chapman.edu.
