Business major Jason Cunningham ’13 started School Savings ID to help connect local businesses with university community.

The Chapman University student and employee community can enjoy up to 20 percent discounts at local restaurants and other businesses, thanks to School ID Savings, the brainchild of international business major Jason Cunningham ’13.

Cunningham launched his discount offering pursuit in early 2012. The goal of School ID Savings is to provide a channel of communication between the Chapman community and city of Orange businesses.

“It’s a win-win for both the businesses who participate in School ID Savings and the students,” explained Cunningham. “Businesses enlarge their customer base and students can purchase goods and services locally on a student budget.”

For an annual $40 participation fee, businesses are listed on the School ID Savings website,
www.schoolidsavings.com
, and promoted through social media, campus flyers and word of mouth. To date, there are 20 businesses participating, from taxi services and dry cleaners to yoga studios and restaurants. The discounts offered range from 10 to 20 percent.

Students, as well as Chapman faculty and staff, need only to show their Chapman ID at participating businesses to enjoy the discounts. More businesses continue to sign on to the new program. To see what’s new, follow
