Save Feb. 20 for State of the University — and a new poster, too

Friday, Feb. 20, is a big day for everyone at Chapman University. That’s when President Jim Doti will deliver the annual State of the University address. But for Annie Unruh ’15 it’s fair to say the day will be particularly special. That’s because she designed the commemorative poster to be presented to attendees.

“I was definitely really proud to have been chosen for it,” says the native of Kansas City, Kan.

Each year students in Advanced Graphic Design are given a few thematic guidelines and challenged to create the State of the University poster, a keepsake handed out at the conclusion of the talk.

This year the task was to honor The Hilbert Collection, Chapman University’s new collection of world-class
California Scene paintings
made possible by a $10 million gift from Mark and Janet Hilbert. The paintings will be displayed in the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman.

Unruh chose to reflect the spirit and style of California Scene painting with breezy colors and typefaces, overlaid with a stylized rendering of the Chapman window. Unruh says it is an expression of “the connection to the Hilberts, California Scene painting and Chapman’s community in California.”

Save the Date: The 2015 State of the University is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, in Memorial Hall.
