Chapman volunteers needed to help out with social event for adults with autism

Chapman University’s College of Educational Studies is seeking student, faculty and staff volunteers interested in helping out with its Social for Adults with Autism and Caregivers on Sunday, April 26 from 1 to 5 p.m.

A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, from greeting and guiding guests onto campus to helping serve refreshments.

The social event is being organized by the Family Autism Network (FAN), Chapman Ability Projects and students form CES’ Counseling and School Psychology (CSP) and Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) programs. It is one of three planned throughout the year in partnership with UC Irvine and California State University, Fullerton.

“The socials provide a safe, entertaining and age-appropriate environment were volunteers facilitate social interaction with and between guests who often struggle with social engagement and maintaining friendships. These no-cost events have been widely attended and guests, caregivers, and volunteers have all shared what a valuable and rewarding experience they have had,” says Jeanne Anne Carriere, Ph.D., director of the Chapman Ability Project.

The Chapman Ability Project Director is a program run in partnership with The Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

To volunteer, contact Carriere at chapmanautismsocial@gmail.com or call 714-628-2842.
