It\u2019s here the mammoth gray whales come like clockwork each year to birth their calves. The winter migration down the coast from Alaska is a journey of more than 5,000 miles one way and is one of the longest migrations made by any mammal.<\/p>\n<p>And for some reason these huge gray whales, one of the oldest species on earth dating back at least 30 million years, actually seem to seek out and enjoy human contact once they reach the lagoon.<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: This episode was released across Public Broadcasting Service&#8217;s (PBS) affiliated stations in California, but not necessarily on the same day for each station.
