It&#8217;s an ecological treasure, providing habitat for rare plants, animals, and nearly 300 species of birds. The slough harbors the largest tract of tidal salt marsh in California outside of San Francisco Bay, and its watershed includes dunes, coastal marsh, oak woodlands, and unique maritime chaparral.<\/p>\n<div><em>Note: This episode was released across Public Broadcasting Service&#8217;s (PBS) affiliated stations in California, but not necessarily on the same day for each station.
