It is easy to become comfortable with our digital surroundings and to assume that that the information we provide online is safe. Unfortunately that is not always the case. Each year on January 28th, Chapman University partners with the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) by participating in Data Privacy Day, which helps spread awareness about privacy and to educate our campus community on how to secure their personal and university information.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Owning Your Privacy:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Personal info is like money: Value it. Protect it. <\/b>Personal information has tremendous value to businesses \u2013 just like money. Make informed decisions about whether or not to share your data.<\/li>\n<li><b>Keep tabs on your apps.<\/b> Many apps ask for access to personal information, such as your geographic location, contacts list and photo album, before you can use their services. Be thoughtful about who gets that information.<\/li>\n<li><b>Manage your privacy settings. <\/b>Check the privacy and security settings on web services and apps and set them to your comfort level for information sharing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Manage Your Privacy Settings:<\/h3>\n<p>Want to view or change your privacy\/security settings, but don&#8217;t know where to find them?\u00a0The National Cyber Security Alliance has compiled direct links to update your privacy settings on popular devices and online services. <a href=\"https:\/\/staysafeonline.org\/stay-safe-online\/managing-your-privacy\/manage-privacy-settings\/\">Click Here<\/a> to learn more.<\/p>\n<h3>Ways to Get Involved:<\/h3>\n<p>Chapman University is a proud champion for Data Privacy Day. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/campus-services\/information-systems\/security\/index.aspx\">Information Security<\/a> team would like to encourage our entire campus community to become Data Privacy Day champions.
