With that, let\u2019s get started!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Role of IS&amp;T in data management<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">IS&amp;T has historically been responsible for managing on-premise storage \u2013 primarily, our file servers and, more recently, data that is stored on your local devices with the assistance of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/campus-services\/information-systems\/software\/crashplan.aspx\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">tools like CrashPlan<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This allowed us to assist you in managing your <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">data sharing &amp; storage\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">objectives, particularly around security.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We\u2019re announcing today our updated guidance on recommended tools for new data storage and collaboration.\u00a0\u00a0 Using one of our recommended tools ensures that IS&amp;T can continue to help ensure that you are configuring and utilizing these new providers effectively, as well as being vigilant to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/technology\/microsoft-investigation-sheds-new-light-on-the-devastating-2020-solarwinds-hack\/ar-BB1dOdKf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ever-increasing risks that we all face by bad actors<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Cloud services allow\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">you<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the individual, to store and manage your data individually and choose with whom it can be accessed. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This improved flexibility is not without risk, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">we highly recommend that you store institutional data in an IS&amp;T-supported platform<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive \u2013 the cloud storage providers of choice<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Going forward, IS&amp;T plans to de-emphasize the usage of DropBox in favor of Microsoft OneDrive.\u00a0 Google Drive will also remain an option but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/campus-services\/information-systems\/security\/data-risk-classification.aspx\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">will not be recommended for certain sensitive data security scenarios<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. However<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, you will begin to see our recommendations shift over the course of this year in documentation, training, and new efforts. We understand that OneDrive may not be your current tool of choice and may not even be the most appropriate for every situation. Expect updated documentation and platform comparisons from IS&amp;T in the near future.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Changes to G Suite for Education \u2013 unlimited storage goes away<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Google has long provided higher education with free services and unlimited storage. On February 16<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Google announced rebranding its services to Google Workspace for Education.\u00a0\u00a0 They also announced the end of unlimited free storage for education customers. We\u2019re still ascertaining the full impact of this decision to Chapman University, but the likely outcome is that high limits for Google Drive will be placed as a default across all accounts.
