This year, Scammer Claus has gone high-tech, wielding artificial intelligence and\u00a0deepfake\u00a0technology to make\u00a0scams\u00a0nearly impossible\u00a0to spot.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The AI-Powered Ho-Ho-Hoax<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It started innocently enough: a video message from Santa, wishing you happy holidays and offering exclusive gifts. The voice was warm, the face familiar, and the message seemed genuine. But this wasn\u2019t the real Santa\u2014it was Scammer Claus, now armed with AI tools that can clone voices, faces, and even mannerisms. With just a few seconds of audio or video scraped from social media, scammers can create deepfake messages that sound and look exactly like someone you trust\u2014be it Santa, a loved one, or even your boss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This year\u2019s\u00a0scams\u00a0go beyond\u00a0emails.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0seeing:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Deepfake Videos:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0AI-generated clips of public figures (or Santa himself) promoting fake deals, charity drives, or urgent requests for help.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Voice Cloning:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Scammer Claus can now call you, sounding just like a friend or family member, asking for money or sensitive information.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AI-Powered Phishing Sites:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Fake holiday stores and charity pages, built in minutes by AI, look indistinguishable from the real thing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Social Media Deception:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Deepfake endorsements and fake giveaways flood Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, targeting deal-hungry shoppers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Why Are These Scams So Effective?<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AI enables scammers to personalize attacks, analyze your online behavior, and craft messages that appear urgent and authentic. Old red flags, such as bad grammar and generic greetings, are gone. Today\u2019s scams are polished, timely, and emotionally manipulative.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Fallout<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Victims of these new\u00a0scams\u00a0have lost money, had\u00a0their\u00a0identities stolen, and even been tricked into installing malware. Always check for small spelling changes or odd domain names.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Use Security Tools:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Leverage AI-powered\u00a0scam\u00a0detection tools, browser protections, and multi-factor authentication.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Educate Yourself and Others:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Share tips with friends and family. The more we know, the harder it is for Scammer Claus to succeed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Trust Your Gut:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0If it sounds too good to be true, it\u00a0probably is. Santa\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0need your bank info, and Chapman IS&amp;T will never ask for your password.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Moral of the Story<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Scammer Claus may have upgraded to AI and deepfakes, but vigilance, education, and smart security habits are still your best defense.
