Fowler School of Law<\/a> alumni, faculty, families and friends joined together on December 7 in celebration of the law school\u2019s 84 newly admitted lawyers at a Bar Admission Ceremony held in Chapman\u2019s Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the fifth consecutive year that Fowler School of Law alumni have surpassed the California Bar Exam pass rate. The Fowler School of Law first-time pass rate was 71.2%, more than three percentage points higher than the California ABA accredited law schools average, more than 12 percentage points above the out-of-state ABA accredited law schools average, and almost 25 points above the overall state average.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10430\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10430\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2015\/12\/DSC_0197_crop.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10430\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10430\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2015\/12\/DSC_0197_crop.jpg\" alt=\"Speaker at the bar admission ceremony\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2015\/12\/DSC_0197_crop.jpg 927w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2015\/12\/DSC_0197_crop-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2015\/12\/DSC_0197_crop-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>Judge Jonathan Fish of the Orange County Superior Court addressed students before administering the state oath to graduates.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On hand to welcome our alumni to their new profession were the Honorable Jonathan Fish, of the Orange County Superior Court, and the Honorable Karen Scott, of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Judge Fish addressed the group before administering the state oath, congratulating the new lawyers on their success so far. \u201cYou\u2019ve graduated from a fine law school and passed one of the hardest bar exams in the country. You\u2019ve done a lot so far, but you have more to do,\u201d he noted, explaining the importance of maintaining professionalism and high ethical standards.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Scott administered the federal oath, but first took a moment to give some advice to the new lawyers: \u201cAlways remember that sense of excitement and gratitude you feel now. Carry that forward with you in your careers. You will get to work on issues that are fundamental and that matter. You will have a chance to protect people\u2019s rights and advocate for justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Todd Friedland, President-Designate of the Orange County Bar Association, told the group, \u201cYou are going to be challenged and intellectually stimulated constantly.&#8221; Marvin Adviento (\u201905), Chair of the Fowler School of Law<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/alumni\/alumni-advisory\/index.aspx\"> Alumni Advisory Board<\/a>, urged the new attorneys to pursue excellence. \u201cIf you do that,\u201d he noted, \u201crewards will follow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wylie Aitken, Chair of the Fowler School of Law <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/about\/board-of-advisors.aspx\">Board of Advisors<\/a>, congratulated the successful group, and gave a special acknowledgement to newly licensed attorney Megan Demshki (\u201815), the third Chapman alumnus\u00a0to join the prestigious firm of Aitken*Aitken*Cohn.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Campbell ended the ceremony by thanking Professor Mario Mainero, director of Fowler School of Law\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/student-resources\/bar-preparation\/index.aspx\">Bar Exam Preparation Program<\/a>, and also acknowledged the many attorneys and professors who helped grade practice exams leading up to the exam.
