Fowler School of Law\u2019s Diversity and Social Justice Forum will host its 2016 symposium \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/events\/symposia\/diversity-initiative-symposium\/symposium-2016.aspx\">Silenced Justice?<\/a>\u201d on November 4. The three-panel event will feature a special keynote address by Immediate Past President of the American Bar Association Paulette Brown.<\/p>\n<p>The Diversity and Social Justice Forum Symposium brings diverse voices to campus to speak on important topics facing our broader community. This year\u2019s symposium will address the politics of seeking asylum in the United States; the impact of and possible motives behind voter ID laws in light of changes to the Voting Rights Act; and the path toward equal protection for the transgender community. The event will be held in Kennedy Hall Room 237, from 1 to 7 p.m. The keynote address will be presented at a dinner immediately following the conclusion of the symposium panels.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAcademic topics require action to truly change, however incrementally, the world in which we live. Be it on the front steps of the law school to the broader Orange County area, there is nothing if not a more urgent need to ensure that voices actually representing the communities impacted in these select spheres be heard. Please join us in our discussion, our learning, and our effort to give voice and justice to those silenced.\u201d \u2013 Diversity and Social Justice Forum<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Keynote speaker Paulette Brown is a partner in the Morristown, N.J., office of Locke Lord LLP, where she is also co-chair of the firm\u2019s Diversity &amp; Inclusion Committee.
