Professor Richard Redding has written a new report for the Justice Department\u2019s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention that concluded that transferring juveniles for trial and sentencing to an adult criminal court has increased recidivism, especially among violent offenders, and has led many young people to a permanent life of crime.\u00a0 The report was the subject of an August 13, 2008 Op Ed in the New York Times<\/em> entitled “The Case for Juvenile Courts.”\u00a0 In that piece, it was noted that: “Young people who commit serious, violent crimes deserve severe punishment.
