Fowler School of Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the hours of classes, studying and preparing, the JD and LL.M. students of Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law received their respective law degrees and are ready to head out into the world. Commencement exercises for the Class of 2014 took place on<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ibc.chapman.edu\/Mediasite\/Play\/517591d6de49473cb84a9de68bec656d1d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friday, May 23, 2014 at 5 p.m.<\/a> on the Holly &amp; David Wilson Field at Chapman University.<\/p>\n<p>The 2014 keynote speaker for the Fowler School of Law was the Honorable Raymond C. Fisher, Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. \u201cWe all get to where we are with the help of others,\u201d said Judge Fisher at the beginning of his speech. He continued to explain how unexpected people and events changed the path of his career and brought him to this point. Judge Fisher encouraged the graduates to be open to and look for these opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7789\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2014\/05\/fowler.jpg\" alt=\"fowler\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>Following Judge Fisher, Fowler School of Law Dean Tom Campbell and Chapman University President James L. Doti presented Dale E. Fowler with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. In 2013, Chapman University\u2019s law school was the recipient of the second largest reported gift to any law school in the United States thanks to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/2013\/08\/14\/chapman-universitys-school-of-law-receives-a-55-million-gift-to-endow-and-rename-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$55 million donation from prominent real estate developer Dale E. Fowler and his wife Sarah Ann<\/a>. The law school was named \u201cThe Dale E. Fowler School of Law\u201d in September 2013.<\/p>\n<p>During the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/law\/2014\/05\/29\/fowler-school-of-law-2014-graduation-banquet-and-award-ceremonies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">graduation banquet the night before<\/a>, several students were also honored for their involvement or academic achievement at the law school. The 2014 Valedictorian and the recipient of the Carmelina Doti Academic Excellence Award was Blake Joseph Corry. He emphasized this point using humor and specific examples from his years at Fowler School of Law.<\/p>\n<p>Following Gennawey, graduating LL.M. student <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/about\/law-profiles\/eghosa.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eghosa Courage Isibor <\/a>delivered the LL.M. response. Isibor, who came to Fowler from Nigeria, said that when choosing a law school in the United States, it was important to him to find a school with diversity. \u201cI envisioned a school where students from different nations, ethnicities and backgrounds can cross-pollinate ideas in an intellectually stimulating environment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Breaking tradition, this year the M. Katherine Baird Darmer Outstanding Professor of the Year Award was presented to two professors: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/susanna-ripken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Susanna K. Ripken <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/celestine-mcconville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Celestine R. McConville<\/a>.
