Fowler School of Law will present\u00a0&#8220;A Conversation About Confidential Jailhouse Informants,&#8221; a presentation\u00a0developed as a response to the controversy surrounding the <em>People v.\u00a0Scott Dekraai<\/em> case and the related pre-trial hearings focusing on the alleged misuse of\u00a0informants in the Orange County jail. (Dekraai confessed to murdering eight people in a Seal Beach\u00a0salon.) As a result of the rulings, there have been numerous articles published about the\u00a0actions of the Orange County District Attorney\u2019s Office and other law enforcement agencies. The\u00a0<em>Dekraai<\/em> judge eventually recused the District Attorney\u2019s Office and that recusal has been appealed.<\/p>\n<p>This presentation provides an opportunity for representatives from the District Attorney\u2019s Office and\u00a0the criminal defense bar to discuss, in an academic debate format, the issues raised by the <em>Dekraai<\/em> case\u00a0and the use of confidential jailhouse informants in general. Each side will present for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of questions from the audience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Featuring: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ebrahim Baytieh<\/strong>, Assistant District Attorney at the Orange County District Attorney&#8217;s Office<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jack M. Earley<\/strong>, Certified Criminal Law Specialist and Founding President of the Orange County Criminal Defense Bar Association<\/li>\n<li><strong>David E. Swanson<\/strong>, Certified Criminal Law Specialist<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jim Tanizaki<\/strong>, Senior Assistant District Attorney at the Orange County District Attorney&#8217;s Office<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event will be moderated by Fowler School of Law Dean and Donald P.
