In partnership with the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences<\/a>\u2019 Publishing Festival, the Leatherby Libraries presents a curated book display exploring the world of publishing!<\/span><\/p>\n

On April 14, Wilkinson College hosted its Publishing Festival, showcasing student-run and externally operated publishing organizations and featuring keynote speaker Lillian-Yvonne Bertram. The event aimed to inspire a new generation of creatives to publish their work to the public while raising awareness of the behind-the-scenes processes of publishing. Students were also encouraged to use the Short Story Machine on the first floor of the library and take part in the publishing process themselves to share their ideas with the community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This display showcases titles related to topics such as writing, publishing, and copyright. A highlight of the display is <\/span>The Writing Life<\/span><\/i><\/a> by Anne Dillard, a collection of essays that examines the challenges of being a writer and offers insights into the creative process through her own experiences. This book highlights the need for dedication and discipline in writers and aims to inform readers of the realities of writing.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Leatherby Libraries’ PubFest book display was a really nice opportunity to connect the library\u2019s collections with the English department\u2019s celebration of writing and literary creativity on campus. We pulled together a mix of books on the craft of writing, publishing, and reading, from titles like Bird by Bird and On Writing, to works on editing, copyright, and the future of AI. We did this to reflect the different ways people are engaging with writing today.\u201d – Katherine Roth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We invite all students, faculty, and staff to visit the PubFest Display on the first floor of the Leatherby Libraries to learn more about the art and discipline of publishing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
