Under the direction of Taylor Greene, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assistant Dean for Library AI Literacy and Instructional Services and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Music Librarian, students apply advanced skills in music research, scholarly writing, and responsible engagement with primary sources and emerging technologies.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What will the Temianka Music Research Scholar do?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The selected student will:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conduct original musicological research connected to Henri Temianka\u2019s career and influence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Receive structured mentorship from a scholar-librarian with expertise in performance, music history, and information literacy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Consult and analyze primary sources, including but not limited to materials from the Temianka Archives.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gain experience in advanced research methodologies, including responsible use of AI as a research tool.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Produce a culminating scholarly product such as a research paper or annotated bibliography.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Potentially co-present research findings at a professional conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>How to Apply<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Temianka Music Research Scholar Program is highly selective; only one student is selected per academic year. Applicants must be enrolled as Chapman University <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">students during the 2026\u20132027 academic year and be able to work up to 10 hours per week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please apply through the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/chapman.peopleadmin.com\/postings\/40708\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chapman job portal<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to submit your resume and responses to the supplemental questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated interest in music research, musicology, or related fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Questions about the program or application process may be directed to:<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.chapman.edu\/prf.php?id=5a721555-7cdb-11ed-9922-0ad758b798c3\"><b><i>Taylor Greene<\/i><\/b><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (tgreene@chapman.edu)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assistant Dean for Library AI Literacy and Instructional Services and Music Librarian<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\"><b>Research Topic<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.chapman.edu\/temianka\/\">Henri Temianka<\/a> (1906 \u2013 1992) was a gifted violinist, conductor, author, and music educator. In 1946, he founded the Paganini Quartet, an American virtuoso string quartet, which won acclaim for its 1947 recording of Beethoven\u2019s String Quartets No. 7 \u2013 9, Opus 59, \u201cRasumovsky.\u201d\u00a0 He performed extensively across Europe and the Americas, collaborating with prominent musicians and orchestras and later founded the California Chamber Symphony. Temianka\u2019s efforts in music education and his innovative approach to chamber music earned him numerous accolades, including the French Officier des Arts et des Lettres and an honorary doctorate from Pepperdine University. Starting in the 1950s, he broke classical music tradition by casually lecturing about music right from the stage during performances.
