These writers offer advice about developing a career as a writer, words that are often, in turns, encouraging, philosophical, and sensible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, April 11, 2017 \u2022 3:00 p.m.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Bush Conference Center, Beckman 404<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Writers<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9R1q0g8hw_g9mqgr_4ec.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2040\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2040 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9R1q0g8hw_g9mqgr_4ec.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a> Michael Connelly<\/strong> is the author of twenty-nine novels and one nonfiction work. Over sixty million copies of his books have been sold worldwide and translated into thirty-nine languages. A former newspaper reporter who worked the crime beat at the<em> Los Angeles Times<\/em> and the Fort Lauderdale <em>Sun Sentinel<\/em>, Connelly has won numerous awards for his\u00a0 journalism and his fiction. His first novel, <em>The Black\u00a0Echo<\/em>, won the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for Best First Novel in 1992. Connelly\u2019s books, <em>Blood Work<\/em> and <em>The Lincoln Lawyer<\/em>, have been adapted into movies. His most recent #1 <em>New York Times<\/em> bestsellers include <em>The Wrong Side of Goodbye<\/em>, <em>The Crossing<\/em>, <em>The Burning Room<\/em>, <em>The Gods of Guilt<\/em>, <em>The Black Box<\/em>, and <em>The Drop<\/em>. Michael is the executive producer of BOSCH, an Amazon Studios original drama series based on his character Harry Bosch.\u00a0He is also the executive producer of the documentary film,<em> Sound of Redemption: The Frank Morgan Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9Rqd2ldx_g9mqh2_4ec.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2043\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2043 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9Rqd2ldx_g9mqh2_4ec.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"265\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9Rqd2ldx_g9mqh2_4ec.jpg 265w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/67\/2017\/04\/A9Rqd2ldx_g9mqh2_4ec-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/a>Lorene Delany-Ullman\u2019s<\/strong> book of prose poems, <em>Camouflage for the Neighborhood<\/em>, was the winner of the 2011 Sentence Award and was published by Firewheel Editions (December 2012). She recently published her poetry and creative non-fiction in <em>Z\u00f3calo Public Square<\/em>, <em>Tupelo Quarterly<\/em>, <em>Santa Monica Review<\/em>, and <em>TAB: The Journal of Poetry &amp; Poetics<\/em>. Her poems have been included in anthologies such as <em>Orange County, A Literary Field Guide (Heyday Books, 2017)<\/em>. She works in collaboration with artist Jody Servon on <em>Saved: Objects of the Dead<\/em>, a photographic and poetic exploration of the human experience. His debut novel, <em>Symptoms of Being Human<\/em>, is an ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults Selection, a Rainbow List Selection, and\u00a0 garnered starred reviews from <em>Booklist<\/em> and <em>Publishers Weekly<\/em>. Before becoming a novelist, Jeff acted on TV and toured as the lead singer of a rock band. When the band dissolved, Jeff, who had always written short stories and lyrics, found his passion in full-length fiction. A Southern California native, Carlson graduated from Chapman University&#8217;s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and has worked as a writer for comic books and film.
