{"id":484,"date":"2016-03-02T07:53:53","date_gmt":"2016-03-02T07:53:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/library\/2016\/03\/02\/librarian-interviews-lauren-menges\/"},"modified":"2016-03-02T07:53:53","modified_gmt":"2016-03-02T07:53:53","slug":"librarian-interviews-lauren-menges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/2016\/03\/02\/librarian-interviews-lauren-menges\/","title":{"rendered":"Librarian Interviews: Lauren Menges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer I conducted a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/2014\/07\/30\/library-student-employees-make-a-difference\/\">series of in<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/2014\/07\/30\/library-student-employees-make-a-difference\/\">terviews <\/a>with all the student workers around the <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.chapman.edu\/library\/\">Lea<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www1.chapman.edu\/library\/\">therby<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www1.chapman.edu\/library\/\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www1.chapman.edu\/library\/\">Libraries<\/a>. These interviews helped inform the community about all the different areas of the library and all the services we have! Now, we\u2019re doing the same with all our hard-working librarians. Lauren Menges, one of our archivists, was kind enough to answer some questions for us.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>What is your name and title?<\/strong><br \/>\nLauren Menges, Archivist for the Leatherby Libraries<\/p>\n<p>2. <strong>In what department of the Leatherby Libraries do you work?<\/strong><br \/>\nI work in the Special Collections and Archives department.<\/p>\n<p>3. <strong>How long have you been at Chapman University?<\/strong><br \/>\nI started at Chapman as a part-time reference librarian in January last year. I held that position until the end of 2015 when I was hired full-time as the archivist.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>What is your job in a nutshell?<\/strong><br \/>\nMy job is to oversee the Huell Howser Archive and the Center for American War Letters Archive. I am in charge of processing the collections so that they can be used for research. I assist researchers with accessing the collections, answer reference questions, participate in events and outreach, and maintain a social media presence.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>Have you held any jobs at other universities or libraries?<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile I was part-time at Chapman, I also worked at UCI in their Special Collections library. Before moving to California about a year and a half ago, I was the Manuscripts Digitization Project Librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>6. <strong>What are your passions\/interests outside of work?<\/strong><br \/>\nI have lots of interests outside of work! I take ballet class several times a week and get to perform once a year in June. I also rock climb several times a week. My other interests are backpacking, hiking, camping,<br \/>\nbiking\u2026 anything outdoors!<\/p>\n<p>7. <strong>Where did you get your degree?<\/strong><br \/>\nI did my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Lafayette College in Easton, PA. I got my M.L.I.S. at the University of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p>8. <strong>Where is your hometown?<\/strong><br \/>\nI\u2019m an east-coaster: I grew up in New York, but call North Carolina \u201chome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>9. <strong>What is the last book you read, or the last book you loved?<\/strong><br \/>\nI recently read <em>I Am Pilgrim<\/em> by Terry Hayes. I couldn\u2019t put it down! It\u2019s an espionage thriller about bio-terrorism. I\u2019m not normally a \u201cspy book\u201d kinda gal, but this book was terrific (and terrifying)!<\/p>\n<p>10. <strong>Any fun facts about yourself?<\/strong><br \/>\nI have two cats I named after favorite authors: Beatrix Potter (Trixie) and Henry David Thoreau.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last summer I conducted a series of interviews with all the student workers around the Leatherby Libraries.
