After many years of using the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/library\/2020\/10\/12\/leatherby-libraries-traap-method-helps-students-find-reliable-information\/\">TRAAP<\/a> evaluation method as our primary tool to teach Chapman University first-year students how to evaluate information sources, the Leatherby Libraries librarians are now teaching students a new method to critically evaluate information sources: <a href=\"https:\/\/hapgood.us\/2019\/06\/19\/sift-the-four-moves\/\">SIFT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SIFT is an acronym developed by innovative information literacy expert <a href=\"https:\/\/hapgood.us\/about\/\">Mike Caulfield<\/a> for the following method:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stop<\/li>\n<li>Investigate the Source<\/li>\n<li>Find Trusted Coverage<\/li>\n<li>Trace to the Original<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whereas TRAAP (which stands for Timeliness, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose) is a checklist approach developed to evaluate information in an era when most libraries were still mostly focused on print materials, SIFT was specifically designed to evaluate online resources.
