Music at the Malloy is a biannual classical guitar<\/a> showcase hosted by the Leatherby Libraries in the Malloy Performance Portico on the third floor. Twice a year, the Leatherby Libraries invite Chapman Students from Professor Daniel De Arakal’s guitar studio to perform classical guitar pieces that they have been working on throughout the semester.<\/p>\n

On December 1st, 2023, Darius Miertchin ’24<\/strong>, Caiden Craig ’25<\/strong>, Nick Acevedo ’26<\/strong>, Zack Corr ’26<\/strong>, CJ Prat ’26<\/strong>, and Sarina Spieker ’26<\/strong> performed during the Fall semester performance. The event opened with solo performances from the students, followed by duet performances from Zack Corr<\/strong> and Caiden Craig<\/strong>. Selections included “Castillos de Espa\u00f1a Redaba” by Federico Moreno Torroba, “Over the Rainbow,” originally written by Harold Arlen and arranged by Toru Takemitsu, and more. The event was closed by Darius Miertschin and CJ Prat, <\/strong>who performed “Fuga Elegiaca,” composed by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a notable Italian composer from the 20th century.<\/p>\n

The Spring semester performance took place on May 3rd, 2024, bringing the return of Darius Miertchin ’24<\/strong>, Caiden Craig ’25<\/strong>, Nick Acevedo ’26<\/strong>, Zack Corr ’26<\/strong>, CJ Prat ’26<\/strong>, and Sarina Spieker ’26<\/strong>, while also introducing\u00a0Milissa Reed ’27<\/strong>, and\u00a0Lauren Wang ’24. <\/strong>Selections from the Spring performances include “Mallorca, Op. 202” by Isaac Alb\u00e9niz, “Ilha de Coral” composed by Bonf\u00e1, and “Un Dia de Noviembre” by Leo Brouwer. Graduating senior Darius Miertchin<\/strong> closed out the event alongside Caiden Craig<\/strong> and CJ Prat<\/strong> with a trio performance of “Selections from Twenty-Four Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87” composed by Dmitri Shostakovich that Dr. Arakal arranged.<\/p>\n

Music at the Malloy is a favorite event at the Leatherby Libraries, as it allows students to connect with the Chapman community. We are pleased to provide space for classical guitar student performers to showcase their talents at the Music at the Malloy event. We are excited to continue this event during the 24-25 school year!<\/p>\n
