Indian fashion is known for its rich colors, intricate designs, and traditional garments like the sari.<\/p>\n<p>Through a mix of books from the Library&#8217;s collection and items on loan from Dr. Yatri Shukla, a Mathematics <span class=\"ui-provider ed boh boi boj bok bol bom bon boo bop boq bor bos bot bou bov bow box boy boz bpa bpb bpc bpd bpe bpf bpg bph bpi bpj bpk bpl bpm bpn bpo\" dir=\"ltr\">Lecturer at the Schmid College of Science and Technology<i>, <\/i>w<\/span>e dive into the colorful world of Women&#8217;s Fashion from India.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shukla shared some of her beautiful Indian clothes and accessories for the display.<\/p>\n<p>These items include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gajra (a hair accessory made from flowers worn during festive occasions such as weddings)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Handmade jewelry <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A bajubandh (traditional jewelry worn by Indian women on the upper arm) <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A dancing skirt <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A set of bridal bangles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and more!!<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2023\/10\/23\/shuklas-take-chapman-family-literally\/\">Shukla family<\/a>&#8216;s involvement in campus activities, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepanthernewspaper.org\/features\/chapman-prepares-for-diwali-celebration\">Diwali celebration<\/a>, underscores the importance of embracing and sharing cultural traditions. Their efforts have contributed significantly to fostering a more inclusive and understanding community at Chapman University.<\/p>\n<div class=\"markdown prose w-full break-words dark:prose-invert light\">\n<p>The display also features books from the Library&#8217;s rich and diverse collection. <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Books in this display include\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">My Padmina Wears a Sari\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How to Wear a Sari<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which explore the significance of the &#8220;sari&#8221; in women&#8217;s fashion in India. &#8220;A sari is a long piece of material that you wrap around yourself in a special way,&#8221; writes Kashmira Sheth in\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">My Padima Wears a Sari.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The sari is traced back to the Indus Valley civilization and is a symbol of tradition and honor in the nation and culture of India. The sari&#8217;s history and expression as a fashion essential in India spotlight the significance of clothing in women&#8217;s fashion in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Library&#8217;s display also includes books about the evolution of women&#8217;s fashion in India and its impact worldwide, such as <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contemporary Indian Fashion\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and\u00a0<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">India in Fashion: The Impact of Indian Dress and Textiles on the Fashionable Imagination.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">These books examine traditional clothing items from India while also exploring contemporary styles in India and around the world. It is important to show the impact of fashion to understand how culture influences society positively.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"markdown prose w-full break-words dark:prose-invert light\">\n<blockquote><p>Highlighting the cultural and academic richness of our campus, we invited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/deepa-badrinarayana\">Dr. Deepa Badrinarayana,<\/a> a professor for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/index.aspx\">Dale E. Fowler School of Law,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/anuradha-prakash\">Dr. Anuradha Prakash,<\/a> a food science professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/scst\/index.aspx\">Schmid College of Science and Technology<\/a>, to pose for a photo in front of the display.
