Mark Axelrod, Ph.D., professor, Department of English, Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences and director of the John Fowles Center for Creative Writing, has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship for the academic year 2013-’14. This is his second Fulbright Fellowship.

Charlene Baldwin, dean of the Leatherby Libraries, received the Western Foundation of the Order Sons of Italy in America “Leadership Award,” at a Saturday, Sept. 22, gala held at the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Ana. The award is honors and celebrates individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievement.

Donald Guy, assistant professor and production manager, Department of Theatre, College of Performing Arts, recently served as the lighting designer/lighting director for the Midwest tour of Masters of Illusion – Live! He designed/directed the lighting for performances at Stephens Auditorium in Ames, Iowa; State Theatre in Minn.; Midland Theatre in Kansas City, M; Choctaw Casino Resort in Durant, Okla; and Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville, Ind. The production featured a cast of award-winning magicians including Farrell Dillon, Daren Romeo, James Brandon, Tom Burgoon and Michael Giles. The tour will continue with an East Coast swing from Vermont to Florida and a summer tour with stops in Guatemala, San Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru. Masters of Illusion – Live! is currently the world’s largest touring magic and illusion show with a cast and crew of over 25 and two exotic white tigers, Mystic and Magic.

Tatiana Prytkova, Ph.D., assistant professor, School of Computational Sciences, Schmid College of Science and Technology, has received a research grant from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement (RCSA) to study “The Protein Structure and Mobility Control of Electron Transfer Reactions in Ru-Modified Proteins.” The research is aimed at improving efficiency in solar power.

Kyndra Rotunda, associate professor and executive director of the Institute for Military Personnel, Veterans, Human Rights & International Law & AMVETS Legal Clinic, has been elected into the American Law Institute (ALI). Rotunda was selected for the honor, in part, based on her work defending military service people’s voting rights.

Lisa Sparks, Ph.D., professor, Crean School of Health and Life Sciences, Schmid College of Science and Technology, was listed  as the seventh most prolific author contributing to the journal Health Communication in a study of analyzed trends and patterns in the 22 years of research published in the journal. The listing was compiled from a content analysis of 642 articles that have appeared in Health Communication since its inception.
