Hackathon event for software engineers, entrepreneurs to be hosted on campus

Chapman University, in partnership with AnyMeeting.com, a leading provider of web conferencing, will be the host site for the AnyMeeting WebRTC Hackathon planned Saturday, Jan. 26.

Influxis, a live streaming and real-time application hosting provider, has signed on to be a sponsor of the event along with TokBox, creators of the OpenTok video platform, who announced support for WebRTC back in August of 2012.

The event is open to software engineers, designers, product managers, marketers and entrepreneurs interested in coming together and working on building a new project, product or service involving WebRTC in an intense 12-hour hack session. There is no cost to enter and a grand prize of $5,000 will be awarded to the winning team.

Hosted by Chapman University’s Schmid College of Science & Technology, in partnership with the Ralph W. Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics, and Chapman’s eVillage, the hackathon encourages students, prospective students and alumni throughout Los Angeles and Orange County to participate.

“It is a great opportunity for our students and alumni to apply their knowledge and skills to the development of a potentially revolutionary new technology,” said Michael Fahy, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the School of Computational Sciences

“With entrepreneurship and innovation as driving forces behind the Leatherby Center, supporting a hackathon that brings multi-disciplinary students, alumni, and members of the community together to collaborate is in perfect alignment with our goals,” said Christopher Buckstein, director, eVillage, Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics, Chapman University.

UC Irvine’s Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences and California State Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science are also promoting the event.
