This year’s Jim, Jerry and Marla’s Black and White Film Festival will celebrate journalists of yore with a “newsy” lineup of free Friday evening films. Kicking it off is Deadline U.S.A., a 1952 classic featuring Humphrey Bogart as a crusading editor intent on exposing murderous racketeers — a story that could kill or save his newspaper.

All films screen at 8 p.m. in Attallah Piazza. Save the dates for:

  • Sept 5, Deadline USA
  • Sept. 12, Foreign Correspondent
  • Sept. 26, Call Northside 777
  • Oct. 3, Good Night, And Good Luck
  • Oct. 17, House on Haunted Hill

The film series is named after Chapman University President Jim Doti, Chapman Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students Jerry Price and the Orange County Register’s Marla Jo Fisher, all avid black-and-white movie fans. Each screening is free and open to the public.

In the event of rain or extreme winds, please look for posted signs in the piazza announcing an alternative indoor screening location. More information is also available at the
