Jeff Goad, Pharm.D., MPH, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy, was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. The NFID, founded in 1973, is dedicated to educating the public and healthcare professionals about the causes, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases across the lifespan.

Essraa Nawar, MBA, M.A. MLIS, library development coordinator, Leatherby Libraries, was honored at the “Egyptian Women Can” conference in July in Cairo. Nawar was one of about 30 Egyptian women expatriates living around the world invited by the Egyptian government to attend the conference in recognition of their accomplishments in a variety of international fields.

Christopher Nicholas, DMA, assistant professor and director of bands, woodwinds and brass studies, College of Performing Arts, and Carlos Hernandez ’17 were featured during an hour-long national radio program in Guatemala, where they led a summer international band seminar. During the live radio program, Hernandez was interviewed and interacted with the host, who promoted Hernandez’s scheduled guest saxophone recital, saxophone master classes, and jazz improvisation clinics.

Ramesh Singh, Ph.D., professor of earth and environmental sciences, Schmid College of Science and Technology, gave a talk titled “Interaction between Land-Ocean-Atmosphere Along East and West Coasts of India” at an Integrated Ocean Drilling Program workshop in July at the University of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay campus.

Harry Ufland, professor, Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, received a lifetime achievement award at the San Antonio Film Festival in August in recognition of his career as an agent and producer who worked closely with Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Ridley Scott. Among the other honorees was actor Lou Diamond Phillips, recognized for best performance in a leading role for his work in Created Equal.
