Grants<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Dr. Ajay Sharma<\/a> has received a grant from the National Eye Institute for his project, \u201cTargeting the multicellular process of corneal regeneration and vascularization to enhance outcome of cornea transplantation<\/a>\u201d. He, alongside other investigators, will test the effect of topical application of a recombinant protein Mitsugumin 53 (MG53) on enhancing the success of corneal transplants in patients with high risk of rejection.<\/p>\n

Dr.\u00a0Rachita Sumbria<\/a>\u00a0has been awarded an NIH R01 grant from the National Institute of Aging<\/a>, receiving $1.71 million over the next 5 years for research on Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD) therapeutics. This project is founded on data from her lab\u2019s earlier successes in modifying erythropoietin (EPO) to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) with promising results in treating AD.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sherry Wang<\/a>, Dr. Marc Fleming<\/a>, Dr. Enrique Seoane-Vazquez<\/a>, Dr. Lawrence “LB” Brown<\/a>, and PhD alumni Dr. Olajide Adekunle<\/a> worked with others to publish “Perceptions of metabolic syndrome management utilization in relation to patient experience and health-related quality of life<\/a>” in Exploratory Research in Clinical and Social Pharmacy.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0Dr. Jason Yamaki<\/a>, Dr. Keykavous Parang<\/a>, and researchers at other institutions published “Mechanistic study of antimicrobial effectiveness of cyclic amphipathic peptide [R4W4] against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clinical isolates<\/a>” in Antibiotics.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jerika Lam<\/a> collaborated to publish\u00a0“A mixed methods evaluation of pharmacists\u2019 readiness to provide long-acting injectable HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis in California<\/a>” in Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes.<\/p>\n

Dr. Moom Roosan<\/a>, Dr. Rachita Sumbria<\/a>, Dr. Kamaljit Kaur<\/a>, Dr. Devaraj Chandreshekar, Dr. Nataraj Jagadeesan, PhD candidate Adenike Oyegbesan<\/a>, MSPS candidate Urvashi Panchal<\/a>, and undergraduate Chuli “GraceAnne” Roules<\/a>, worked with other institutions to publish “Hepatic LRP-1 plays an important role in amyloidosis in Alzheimer’s disease mice: Potential role in chronic heavy alcohol feeding<\/a>” in Neurobiology of Disease.<\/p>\n

Dr. Amy Kang<\/a> and PharmD alumna Dr. Mary Elkomos<\/a> worked with others to publish\u00a0“Effectiveness of empiric carbapenem versus non-carbapenem therapy for extended-spectrum \u03b2-lactamase producing Enterobacterales infections in non-intensive care unit patients: a real-world investigation in a hospital with high-prevalence of extended-spectrum \u03b2-lactamase producing Enterobacterales<\/a>“.<\/p>\n
