{"id":2014,"date":"2024-11-07T09:46:29","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T17:46:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/pharmacy\/2024\/11\/07\/cusp-excels-at-california-society-of-health-system-pharmacists-seminar\/"},"modified":"2024-11-07T09:46:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T17:46:29","slug":"cusp-excels-at-california-society-of-health-system-pharmacists-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/2024\/11\/07\/cusp-excels-at-california-society-of-health-system-pharmacists-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"CUSP Excels at California Society of Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cshp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP)<\/a> Seminar, CUSP represented clinical skills, leadership, and academic influence across California.<\/p>\n<p>A duo of PharmD candidates, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/trisha-lu9182\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trisha Lu<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jacqueline-nguyen-293296286\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaqueline Nguyen<\/a>, represented CUSP at the Clinical Skills Competition. Their success secured them a spot at the national level, where the two will continue to represent CUSP at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)<\/a> Midyear conference, competing against students from over 130 pharmacy schools across the nation. The contestants were faced with a complex case involving a 7-year-old patient diagnosed with necrotizing pneumonia and a challenging medical history. Lu and Nguyen\u2019s careful analysis and presentation earned them a fourth-place finish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/11\/IMG_0301.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2018 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/11\/IMG_0301.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"306\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a>CUSP also shined in the Quiz Bowl competition, a segment where our school has historically always proved itself to be one of the most competitive, prepared, and knowledgeable pharmacy schools in the state. The team of 10, led by captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/tinarena-awaradia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tinarena Awaradia<\/a>, secured second place in a high-stakes contest involving 14 pharmacy schools.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman faculty and alumni actively contributed to the Seminar\u2019s educational offerings, leading sessions on critical topics that provided Continuing Education credits. Notable presentations included \u201cThe Collaborative Edge: Unlocking the Power of Teamwork\u201d and \u201cCardiovascular Conundrums-Thrombolytics for Pulmonary Embolism, the Pharmacist&#8217;s Role in Ventricular Assist Device Management, and Heart Failure Myth Busting,\u201d sessions that delved into pharmacists\u2019 roles in complex areas.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, PharmD students presented their research through poster sessions, many sharing their findings with an academic audience for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/11\/IMG_8454-copy.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2020 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/65\/2024\/11\/IMG_8454-copy.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a>Student leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kierrakoehn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kierra Koehn<\/a> was honored with the CSHP Student Leadership Award for her role in the success of CUSP\u2019s CSHP\/ASHP chapter at the CSHP Awards Banquet. Reflecting on the award, Koehn expressed, \u201cAs Immediate Past President of CUSP\u2019s CSHP\/ASHP chapter, I am honored to be recognized by the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists for the work I set forth and accomplished in support of their mission. This organization has led me to meet such amazing colleagues from all over California and allowed me to grow into the young professional I always hoped to become. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for my pharmacy journey and continued involvement in CSHP.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a
