Working in collaboration with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irconservancy.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Irvine Ranch Conservancy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the students studied the thermal limits of common native plant species in Southern California. The results of their work are reported in a preliminary <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4951916\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">preprint.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><a class=\"button red\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/N7VIloyKSlA\" data-analytics-event=\" \">Watch the Spectrum News 1 spot here!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nicole Schwartz, a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow in the Grand Challenges Initiative, has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.biologists.com\/jeb\/article\/227\/17\/jeb249456\/361944\/ECR-Spotlight-Nicole-Schwartz\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interviewed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Journal of Experimental Biology.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Schwartz is studying <\/span><b>hormones and behavior as they relate to early-life development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the lab of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.patriciaclopes.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patricia Lopes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Niko Todorov, a Computational and Data Sciences Ph.D. student working in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=chapman+schmid+hesham&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\">Hesham El-Askary<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2022\/10\/10\/the-big-picture-how-data-science-and-earth-observation-intersect-to-study-climate-risks\/\">Earth System Science Data Solutions Lab<\/a>, <\/span><b>worked with FEMA for nearly a decade to model risk from natural disasters.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Now, he and Professor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/cyril-rakovski\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cyril Rakovski<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> have won a grant from the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot program to use AI to build the next generation of models predicting hurricane formation. The NAIRR Pilot aims to connect U.S. researchers and educators to computational, data, and training resources needed to advance AI research and research that employs AI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2024\/05\/28\/chapman-universitys-yakir-aharonov-elected-as-member-of-the-royal-society\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yakir Aharanov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2014\u00a0co-director of the Institute for Quantum Studies, professor of theoretical physics, and the James J. Farley Professor of Natural Philosophy \u2014\u00a0has published a new article entitled \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.aps.org\/pra\/abstract\/10.1103\/PhysRevA.110.L030201\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Angular momentum flow without anything carrying it<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d in the journal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Physical Review A<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The research has attracted the attention of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scientific American, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with an article entitled \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/a-new-quantum-cheshire-cat-thought-experiment-is-out-of-the-box\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A New Quantum Cheshire Cat Thought Experiment Is Out of the Box<\/span><\/a><b>.\u201d\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2024\/01\/31\/chairs-math-philosophy-and-physics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Andrew Jordan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the Kennedy Chair in Physics and co-director of the Institute for Quantum Studies, has received a $2.43 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation to create a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.chapman.edu\/2024\/08\/05\/new-center-of-excellence-at-chapman-university-will-study-quantum-theory-and-the-nature-of-reality\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Southern California Quantum Foundations Hub<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d at Chapman University.
