opening of research facility scheduled for March 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>New research facility, formerly known as the Cypress Street Schoolhouse, set to open next month<\/h3>\n<p>Chapman University, Schmid College of Science and Technology, and The Orange Barrio Historical Society are hosting the grand opening of The Early Human and Lifespan Development Research Facility.\u00a0 The new facility will be housed in the renovated and restored Cypress Street Schoolhouse.<\/p>\n<p>The Schoolhouse\u00a0 is the last remaining historical segregated school in Southern California.\u00a0 Although the landmark reminds us of a past history of segregated education and its impact on the migrant community serviced by the school, it also reminds us of the community of parents, students, staff, and teachers who made the school a special place.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the Schoolhouse is equipped to support the nationally recognized research program which focuses on women and children.\u00a0 The state-of-the-art facility, which is undergoing <a title=\"LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design\" href=\"http:\/\/new.usgbc.org\/leed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LEED-certification<\/a>, will also be the new home of the <a title=\"Orange Barrio Historical Society\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cityoforange.org\/localhistory\/CypressStreetBarrio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Orange Barrio Historical Society<\/a> and will be a focal point for community meetings and education.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature a dedication and
