{"id":208,"date":"2010-05-10T13:49:47","date_gmt":"2010-05-10T20:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/scst\/2010\/05\/10\/schmid-college-of-science-professor-launches-a-new-journal\/"},"modified":"2010-05-10T13:49:47","modified_gmt":"2010-05-10T20:49:47","slug":"schmid-college-of-science-professor-launches-a-new-journal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/2010\/05\/10\/schmid-college-of-science-professor-launches-a-new-journal\/","title":{"rendered":"Schmid College of Science Professor Launches a New Journal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ramesh Singh, Ph.D., Professor of Earth System Science and Remote Sensing and chief editor of the <em>Journal of \u00a0Geomatics, Natural Hazards and Risk<\/em>, was very happy to see the first issue of the <em>Journal<\/em> published recently.\u00a0 He received a dozen copies of the new journal, published by\u00a0Taylor and Francis, UK, and was honored to formally present a copy to Chapman Chancellor Daniele Struppa last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The seeds of the new journal were planted when Dr. \u00a0Singh was invited to give a lecture on natural hazards during the International Geological Congress held during August 2008, where he met the managing director of Taylor and Francis, UK. \u00a0After an\u00a0encouraging discussion on natural hazards, Dr. Singh\u00a0made a proposal to the managing Board of the Taylor and Francis, UK to start a new journal, which he felt was especially timely because\u00a0the frequency of natural hazards has increased and satellites are now able to provide continuous information around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>After a number of iterations, the managing board approved the journal\u00a0in September 2009.\u00a0 The Editorial Board of the journal consists of 19 members representing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Space Agencies, \u00a0NASA, ESA, JAXA, Canada Center for Remote Sensing<\/li>\n<li>World Meteorological Organization<\/li>\n<li>United Nations Environmental Program<\/li>\n<li>Meteorological organizations<\/li>\n<li>NOAA<\/li>\n<li>British Geological Survey<\/li>\n<li>And\u00a0 members representing academic institutions from various countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taylor and Francis will publish four issues per\u00a0year.
