Three students from Chapman University’s Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy<\/a> (MFT) program were chosen to receive California Educational MFT Stipends. Please help us in congratulating Rebecca Alvarado, <\/b>Angela Cruz<\/b> and Lori Martinez! <\/b><\/p>\n

The awards provide each recipient with a stipend for $18,500 to work with underserved populations. Only 10 stipends were made available for all of the 2012-2013 Marriage & Family Therapy graduate students in Orange County. This year three of the stipends went to students of Chapman University’s Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy program. <\/span><\/p>\n

About Chapman’s MFT Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Of the 92 state accredited or approved MFT programs, Chapman’s is one of only seven programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFTE<\/a>).The program provides students with the academic and professional training to become competent, ethical, culturally sensitive, and systems-oriented marriage and family therapists who can effectively assess, diagnose, and treat a diverse population of individuals, couples and families. <\/span><\/p>\n


\nFor one year, the program’s students conduct individual, couple, and family therapy under direct supervision of licensed mental health professionals at Chapman’s MFT Training Clinic, the
\nFrances Smith Center for Individual & Family Therapy<\/a>
\n. 
\nVery few programs possess an onsite clinic, which enables students to work toward the 3,000 hours they must complete prior to taking their licensing exams in California.<\/span>

About the California Educational MFT Stipend Award<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The California Educational MFT Stipend award was created by the California Department of Mental Health to provide educational stipends to MFT students and address the need for mental health practitioners in underserved communities throughout California.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
