Happy New Year from the\u00a0Schmid College of Science and Technology<\/a>! If you are new to Chapman University, let me extend a warm welcome. If you are a continuing member of our Chapman family, welcome back! We are very excited to usher in 2014, which promises to be a pivotal year for our science programs.<\/p>\n

This fall we will open a new\u00a0health science campus<\/a>\u00a0in Irvine. It will house our current\u00a0physical therapy<\/a>\u00a0program, a\u00a0physician assistant<\/a>\u00a0program (coming 2015) and a new\u00a0School of Pharmacy<\/a>. In addition, planning continues for the new\u00a0Center for Science and Technology<\/a>, scheduled to open in Orange in 2018.<\/p>\n

Realizing these ambitious plans requires strong support from the Chapman community. We are thrilled to announce two transformational gifts we received last semester. Trustee Jim Emmi and his wife Catherine made a\u00a0generous gift in excess of $10 million<\/a>\u00a0to name\u00a0the James and Catherine Emmi Hall of Technology and Engineering in the future Center for Science and Technology. Trustee Harry Rinker and his wife Diane will give $15 million to name the Irvine campus the\u00a0Harry and Diane Rinker Health Science Campus<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These generous gifts go a long way to help Chapman build state-of-the-art facilities that not only attract top students and faculty but also help us become a nationally-ranked research university that preserves its personalized, student-centered educational focus.<\/p>\n

As you peruse this blog, I hope you will sense the energy and creativity of our campus community and be inspired to participate. Whether you want to\u00a0donate<\/a>, mentor a student,\u00a0attend a campus event<\/a>\u00a0or simply\u00a0share<\/a>\u00a0good news about Schmid College with friends and colleagues, we welcome your support. With it, we can increase educational opportunities for our students and the value of a Chapman science degree.<\/p>\n
