XXIII, 607<\/p>\n<p>&#xD;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#xD;<br \/>\nThe Galapagos Islands are unlike any other place in the world and stand as one of the most majestic conversions of biology, geology and human history. Dr. Fredric Caporaso and Dr. Jason Keller of<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/scst\/\" target=\"_blank\">Schmid College of Science and Technology<\/a><br \/>\n&#xA0;take Chapman students on a journey to the South American continent every year.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nThe unique geographical location of the Galapagos Islands, as well as their ongoing seismic and volcanic activity, makes them one of the richest marine ecosystems in the world. Home to land iguanas, giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, penguins, sea lions, and finches, these sights inspired Charles Darwin&#x2019;s theory of evolution by natural selection following his visit in 1835.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2058\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2058\" style=\"width: 870px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2014\/08\/Caporaso-2012-Santa-Cruz-tortoise-2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2058\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2058\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2014\/08\/Caporaso-2012-Santa-Cruz-tortoise-2.jpg\" alt=\"1986-revision-v1\" width=\"870\" height=\"580\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>\n Santa Cruz Tortoise<\/figcaption><\/figure>&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nThe Professors lead Chapman students on a 12-day travel visiting a total of 12 islands, embarking on snorkeling journeys near the equator, and photographing all kinds of wildlife from an arm&#x2019;s length. Students have the unique opportunity of walking in the footsteps of Darwin and observe firsthand how the interactions between the flora and fauna have shaped the landscape of the archipelago.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2056\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2056\" style=\"width: 1009px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2014\/08\/galapagos.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2056\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2056\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2014\/08\/galapagos.jpg\" alt=\"1986-revision-v1\" width=\"1009\" height=\"757\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2056\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><br \/>\n Dr. Caporaso holding two Darwin finches<\/figcaption><\/figure>&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nThe travel course ENV 227: Darwin and the Galapagos is set to depart this coming winter on January 8, 2015 and return January 19, 2015.&#xD;<br \/>\n&#xD;<br \/>\nThis course has a total cost range of $5,492.00. This program does not include international airfare and does not include any tuition costs. All accommodations are provided, including 2 nights in a First Class hotel in Guayaquil, Ecuador and 7 nights aboard the yacht in the Galapagos.
