\nIn a\u00a0big year\u00a0<\/a>for Schmid College, alumna\u00a0Elizabeth Berrigan \u201914\u00a0<\/strong>was among the\u00a0few awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship in\u00a0Physics and Astronomy – Theoretical Physics.<\/p>\n

NSF bestowed the grants to only the top 7% of applicants from an already elite pool. Berrigan, who double-majored in\u00a0Physics\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Biochemistry\u00a0<\/a>at Schmid College, said she felt Chapman University played a significant role in her success.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did a lot of research, including researching entanglement at the Institute for Quantum Studies<\/a>. I learned how to be a scientist there.\u201d Berrigan said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While Berrigan\u2019s goal is to keep doing research, she said she is also interested in science education and community outreach. Berrigan tutored students, lectured class review sessions and involved herself in numerous academic societies. Outside of the Chapman community, Berrigan aided elementary and high school children with classwork, organization and advice for the future.<\/p>\n

And Berrigan seems to need little advice for her own future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to study the emergent properties of entanglement in quantum many-body systems,\u201d Berrigan said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
