This year&#8217;s event was virtual and hosted by Vice President of Research, Dr. Thomas Piechota. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research\/state-of-research.aspx\">watch the event here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The event highlighted Chapman faculty and student successes and those sponsors that have contributed to the support of research and creative activity. Below are some of the faculty and students from Schmid College who were recognized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Highlights included:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Food Science student Natalie Paterson and Dr. John Miklavcic were recognized for their research in partnership with Children&#8217;s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) on nutritional therapies for inflammatory bowel diseases in children.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Associate Professor of Environmental Science, Health and Policy Dr. Georgianna Bostean was recognized for her research on mapping neighborhoods for greater risk of COVID.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences Dr. Hagop Atamian was recognized for his work in computational data around genetic sequencing data-created website to identify new mutations of COVID. This website has been made available to the public and you can view the <a href=\"https:\/\/atamianlab.shinyapps.io\/COVID19GenomicsV1\/\">website here<\/a>. Note the website may take a few minutes to load.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Congratulations to Million Dollar Club Inductee Dr. Douglas Fudge<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Associate Professor of Biological Sciences Dr. Douglas Fudge was inducted into Chapman&#8217;s Million Dollar Club, which means he has collectively received a million dollars in research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and additional industry partners. His research is on understanding marine animals, such as hagfish and their slime, and how that leads to bio-inspired applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Special Thank You to the Keck Foundation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The W.M. Keck Foundation was recognized for its transformational gift, which created our Keck Center for Science and Engineering.
