This international conference brought over 200 attendees from all over the world, with guests participating on campus and remotely.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/08\/IMG_7250.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9033 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/08\/IMG_7250-e1630993713295.jpg\" alt=\"iwota attendees\" width=\"470\" height=\"260\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/daniele-struppa\">President Daniele C. Struppa<\/a> opened the conference with welcoming remarks, and also was a plenary speaker of the conference. His talk was &#8220;An Overview of the Mathematics of Superoscillations.&#8221; Other Chapman faculty that presented were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research\/institutes-and-centers\/quantum-studies\/members\/yakir.aspx\">Yakir Aharonov, Ph.D.<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/ahmed-sebbar\">Ahmed Sebbar, Ph.D.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/08\/IMG_7248.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9032 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/08\/IMG_7248-e1630993598267.jpg\" alt=\"daniele struppa\" width=\"409\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9027 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/08\/IWOTA-2021-20-e1630430047954.jpg\" alt=\"Alpay - IWOTA\" width=\"345\" height=\"460\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Schmid student Natanael Alpay &#8217;22 also presented at the conference. Alpay began his time at Chapman in Spring 2018 and will graduate with degrees in mathematics, physics, computer science and French in Spring 2022. He initially started with a mathematics degree since his father, Schmid professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/daniel-alpay\">Dr. Daniel Alpay<\/a>, shares his love for the field. He added on physics and computer science degrees after he took a few classes and found the subjects interested him as well. He pursued a fourth major in French as he already is fluent and decided he wanted to hone and improve his skills.<\/p>\n<p>Alpay&#8217;s talk, titled &#8220;Generalized Fock Space and Fractional Derivative,&#8221; presented recent mathematical research in spaces of functions relevant in quantum mechanics and signal processing. His work is in collaboration with Paula Cerejeiras and Uwe Kahler from the University of Aveiro.
