Fisher, a Presidential Fellow of Ecosystem Science in Schmid College of Science and Technology at Chapman University, has been named a <a href=\"https:\/\/recognition.webofscience.com\/awards\/highly-cited\/2021\/\">Highly Cited Researcher for 2021 by Clarivate<\/a> for his contributions to the field of geoscience. Fisher studies water, carbon and nutrient cycling in terrestrial ecosystems using a combination of supercomputer models, remote sensing, and field research from the Amazon to the Arctic. He joins the faculty of Chapman University after more than a decade at NASA\u2019s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) where he was the science lead for a mission that placed remote sensing instrumentation on the International Space Station.<\/p>\n<p>The annual list of Highly Cited Researchers identifies some 6,600 individuals from across the globe who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. The Highly Cited Researchers\u2019 names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year. This year\u2019s list includes 24 Nobel laureates.<\/p>\n<p>Fisher is the author of nearly 200 scientific research papers, including papers in leading journals <em>Nature<\/em>, <em>Science<\/em>, and <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences<\/em>. His work has been cited by his colleagues more than 17,000 times. This is his fourth year being named a Highly Cited Researcher.<\/p>\n<p>Fisher is teaching a course on global climate change to first-year students this semester as part of the university\u2019s <em>Grand Challenges Initiative. <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Joshua B.
