The mission of the Be KYnd to Your Heart Foundation is to spread awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), a heart condition that remains undetectable in many yearly physicals for young athletes. Chapman University is the first University to work with the Be KYnd to Your Heart Foundation, where students and staff can volunteer and attend events.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9133 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7107.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Results from the event:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Screened &#8211; 121 (85% of registered)<br \/>\nNormal screen but follow-up recommended &#8211; 29<br \/>\nNormal after echo &#8211; 9<br \/>\nAbnormal &#8211; 6<br \/>\nVolunteers &#8211; 50+ (physicians, Chapman PA students, and Chapman students)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9136 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"317\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324.jpg 1980w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324-258x300.jpg 258w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324-880x1024.jpg 880w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324-768x894.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324-1319x1536.jpg 1319w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/scst\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/64\/2021\/12\/IMG_7067-e1639074968324-1759x2048.jpg 1759w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Chapman Schmid students Ashely Okhovat and Sydni Au Hoy reflected on the successful event!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This event brought the Chapman community together to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and allowed over 100 individuals to get their heart screened.\u00a0The Be KYnd To Your Heart Foundation exists in honor of Kyle J. Taylor, a young man who lost his life to SCA at the age of 18. The purpose of our event is to save another person like Kyle, and if only one person out of all who were screened became aware of an abnormal heart condition, or even no one at all, our mission remains a success. On behalf of the Be KYnd Executive Board at Chapman University, we are honored to join all the families out there in their mission to make heart screenings accessible to the college-age group, and we are blessed to keep Kyle in our hearts. A special thank you to all our volunteers and the Kyle J.
