It’s hard to deny; there’s something about the dollar quarter pounder that is deliciously convenient. It’s just what the college wallet can swing and it’s just fast enough to fit into the student schedule.
HOWEVER! All this considered, the convenience ends there. In fact, those deceivingly appealing aspects don’t even come close to outweighing the substantial environmental hazards that come from meat production.
Soak in some of these gasp-inducing statistics:
One pound of grain-fed beef requires 1,800 gallons of water!
- Compare to wheat production, which takes 10x less that amount of water.
Feeding livestock requires 8x as much land as feeding people.
- Every day, valuable forest is cleared to support livestock, diminishing the natural resource while increasing pollution!
A quarter-pounder produces 6.5 pounds of greenhouse gases.
- That delectable patty is single-handedly heating our atmosphere and the Earth’s surface.
So next time you feel yourself hankering for a burger, think again. Your lunch could alter the planet’s health!
